Bardstown Elementary School (BES) proudly hosted its annual Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) Academic Awards Ceremony on May 8th, recognizing the achievements and hard work of its students.
The event honored students who earned Proficient or Distinguished scores on last year’s KSA in reading, math, or science. A total of 239 medals were awarded to current fourth and fifth-grade students for their outstanding performance on the assessment as third and fourth-graders during the 2023–2024 school year.
The ceremony highlighted six exceptional students who earned either a perfect score of 600 or a near-perfect score in one of the tested subjects — a remarkable accomplishment demonstrating academic excellence.
In a memorable and heartfelt moment, Student Council President and fifth-grade student Lisa Hagan shared an original poem she wrote reflecting on the testing experience, encouraging her classmates to approach this year’s assessment with confidence and perseverance.
“Recognizing student academic achievement is something we do every day at BES, but this ceremony is a special night for many. As a school community, we love to see students recognized for their hard work in the classroom. Watching them cheer for one another and offer hugs and high-fives for hitting their studies hard warms your heart. It reminds us all what school is really about and how hard work can pay off,” said Dr.Joshua DeWar, principal for Bardstown Elementary School.
