Four fifth-grade students from Bardstown Elementary School have earned first place in the Year-Long Session of the prestigious Stock Market Game™.
The winning team — Lisa Hagan, Mallory Grangier, Anna Morris, and Brooklynn Shanks — participated through Bardstown City Schools’ STEAM Academy, where they applied their research, math, and critical thinking skills to manage a simulated investment portfolio over the course of the school year.
Their success earned them a $100 prize, which the students chose to use not for themselves, but for their classroom—purchasing a microscope for the STEAM Academy, ensuring future students can continue exploring science in hands-on, meaningful ways.
The Stock Market Game™, hosted by the SIFMA Foundation, challenges students to grow a virtual $100,000 investment portfolio by researching companies, analyzing trends, and making trades. The Year-Long Session is the most intensive category of the game, requiring consistent engagement, adaptability, and strategic decision-making across several months.
Through Bardstown’s STEAM Academy, students gain access to this type of project-based learning, designed to strengthen academic skills while preparing students for real-world financial and career success.
