Bardstown City Schools has named Dr. Lance Boston interim principal of Bardstown Elementary School, effective July 1, 2025.
“Dr. Boston has a long-established positive leadership impact at Bardstown City Schools. I am comforted to know that his service as the interim principal at BES will ensure that students, staff, and families have support from a well-known and trusted district leader,” said Superintendent Ryan Clark.
Boston brings nearly twenty years of experience in education and school leadership to the role. He currently serves as the district’s director of special programs, director of school safety, and director of law enforcement services. In these positions, he leads efforts across the district in special education, preschool, alternative education, and day treatment programming. He also oversees mental health initiatives and safety planning, working with school counselors, social workers, and community-based providers to support student well-being.
As director of school safety, Boston has led the development and implementation of safety protocols, emergency response systems, and mental health support services.
Boston began his education career as a special education teacher, working in collaborative and resource settings. He has actively participated in district leadership teams, instructional improvement efforts, and professional development for teachers and administrators.
He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of the Cumberlands, where he also earned certifications as superintendent, director of pupil personnel, director of special education, and school principal. He also earned a master’s degree in education from Georgetown College and a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice from the University of Louisville.
“Bardstown Elementary has always held a special place in my heart. My best years as a teacher were spent alongside the amazing staff at BES,” said Boston. “All three of my kids have attended BES, with one still attending. I am honored to have been asked to step into this critical role. I am dedicated to ensuring that BES remains a pillar of educational excellence, innovation, and diversity in the Bardstown/Nelson County community.”
Boston will lead Bardstown Elementary through the 2025–26 school year as the district continues its search for a permanent principal.
Kathy Fenwick, currently the district’s special education coordinator, will serve as interim director of special education, fulfilling the role Boston is leaving vacant.
